My old producer, Larson Paine, had written the Elvis song for Brian Setzer but Brian never recorded it. It was always a dream of mine to record it and now just seemed like the right time. So when Clem Burke was playing drums for me on a different song, I thought I’d ask him if he’d ever played rockabilly before because I had this Elvis song I really wanted to record.

I had no idea he had made an entire rockabilly album with Wanda Jackson, every song on it about Elvis so it was all kind of kismet . And of course he played the shit out of it .

At that point I knew Lee Rocker had to play upright bass on it . We had to make it happen which my manager eventually did. Lee killed it along with Buzz , his long time guitarist. They’re also in the video that we made down in Joshua tree. Clem couldn’t make it as he was on tour with Blondie.
